n the maelstrom of media attention surrounding ebonics, the gay and lesbian community has once again been edited out of yet another national discussion. What you did not read about in USA Today or hear about on npr were the other dialects--I mean languages which, like ebonics, deserve recognition. In an effort to counter the major news media's attempt to expunge the queer community from the discussion of new languages, Virtuále has provided a primer to Queerbonics.

Bean Queen: n. gay, Caucasian man who lives in the Mission and insists on speaking Spanish whenever a cute Latino boy walks by.

Bear: n. man who needs both a shave and to spend less time sitting on a bar stool.

Bottom: n. one who believes it is better to receive than to give.

Breeder: n. everyone else.

Closeted: adj. Usually applied to someone who needs to get over him or herself.

Fag Hag: n. a woman who knows whom she'll have the most fun with.

Girlfriend is on fire: interj. most often heard at professional aerobics or figure-skating competitions.

Hthy S-A GWM ISO LTR. Fts., Fms., Drg. need not app.: Healthy, straight-acting, gay, white male in search of long-term relationship, fats,fems, or druggies need not apply. OR AIDS-phobic, self-loathing, white homosexual male looking to ape conventional heterosexual relationship, men with their natural body shape, who are in touch with their inner-Mary, or know (like our president) how to have a good time need not apply.

Liquor: expres. Liquor? I just met her. (often overheard at The Bearded Lady).

Log Cabin: n. A political club for "gay republicans," see closeted and straight-acting.

Mary: n. moniker used by homosexual men of a certain age.

Daddy: n. moniker used by homosexual men of a certain age wearing leather jackets.

Rice Queen: n. gay man who's video library contains a copy of both The Wedding Banquet and The Joy Luck Club.

Size Queen: n. One who emphasis mass over motion.
