An exhibition of new work by Peter Howells, Rebecca Szeto and Angela Rose Voulgarelis

Marking their second group show together, CODE/DE-CODE reunites Pete Howells, Rebecca Szeto, and Angela Rose Voulgarelis with the Belcher Studios Gallery, from December 8th - 10th, 2000. Featured work explores sexual identity, gender definitions in society, and the imperfections and patterns of the human condition. The artists' connections with their own bodies, in reference to these issues, are interwoven both stylistically and metaphorically, among painting, drawing, and mixed media.

Peter Howells enlists painting, drawing, and mixed media to explore patterns, textures, and the dialogue that is created when juxtaposing seemingly unrelated images. Within the context of women's work, Ms. Szeto's work is a humorous and thoughtful look into the realms of the overlooked, undermined and ultimately essential powers of the mundane, blending ordinary objects with domestic sensibilities. Ms. Voulgarelis uses herself as her primary subject; by fragmenting the figure, she provides her own definition of femininity, and explores the more subtle aspects of the human body.

Even as each artist's work addresses his or her own interests on an independent level, there is a unity of contact bringing the personal in relation to the universal.
